Meet Our Team
Our camp counsellors are all dogs lovers, and almost all are dog owners too! Our team is thoroughly trained in Pet First Aid, Understanding Dog Communication and Managing Off Leash Play Groups to ensure that every dog at camp is enjoying his / her camp time. And of course… each dog is always given personal love and attention.
We hire dog lovers who want to make a career out of working with dogs. If you are interested in working at camp, check out our video here.
Get to know just some of our team of dog care professionals below. We all look forward to meeting you in person!
Cheryl – Camp Owner and Director
Cheryl opened Dogs at Camp Ottawa in August 2009. Cheryl has been working with dogs in off-leash groups since she founded her dog daycare, It’s a Dog’s Life, in Toronto in 2001. This business included dog daycare, grooming and training… so she is very experienced in all aspects of a dog’s life! Wanting to move closer to her parents and live in the country, but continue to work with dogs, she jumped at the chance to open Dogs at Camp and partnered with founder, Glen Kowarsky, to expand his business.
Cheryl is a dog trainer and a Certified Pet First Aid Instructor through Walks ‘n Wags Pet First Aid. A strong believer in and advocate for dog rescue, she volunteers for Sit With Me Shelter Dog Rescue.
Cheryl lives with her own 4 dogs, Jackson, Sura, Thorne and Keisha… all rescues! She generally has a foster dog living in her home as well.
Cheryl continues to ensure that the entire camp team works together to provide a positive and safe place for dogs, as well as an outstanding experience for their owners.
Michael – Camp Manager
Michael joined the DAC team in January, 2016. Michael has a great deal of management and customer service experience as he owns a local camping/trailer park in Pakenham. His love for dogs and animals in general brought him to DAC where he was looking to turn his passion into his career. Mike has an array of pets in his home… three dogs, Stan Lee, Pepper, and Hodor, one cat, Rey, snakes (yes, I said snakes!) and ducks. His passion for animals and his work experience make him a perfect Manager for DAC!
Bonnie – Camp Supervisor
Bonnie joined the DAC team as temporary summer help in 2014. She loved camp so much that she worked part-time for us for a couple of years and joined us full time in 2016, becoming Camp Supervisor in the fall of 2018. When not working, Bonnie loves spending time with her dogs Wanita and Rosita – 2 of the best hound dogs around! She is also an avid horse rider and plays in several sports leagues. Bonnie’s love and knowledge of dogs and compassion make her a perfect Camp Supervisor.
